Want to make
a child smile? Join SDP’s Treasure Boxes for Kids
program. The object of the program is to create hand
painted “treasure boxes” for youth less than 18 years
old who are receiving care at Shriners Hospitals for
Children. These young patients are often given small
gifts to divert their attention from their pain.
Treasure Boxes are containers the youngsters can use to
store their toys and take them home.
The Los Angeles hospital has not had a donation of
Treasure Boxes since the Anaheim Convention in May of
2007. Pacific Coast Artists would like to change that and
provide every
patient with a treasure box. Boxes can be painted,
decoupaged, glittered, jeweled, or simply decorated with
stickers. The photo boxes at most craft stores are just
the right size to sit on the table beside the beds. Look
for special sales on the photo boxes at your local arts
and crafts stores.
We will have boxes and patterns available for everyone
at the July meeting - but please feel free to bring one
(or more) finished boxes. Sample boxes are shown in the
picture above and patterns are available below. More
information about this program is available at
http://www.decorativepainters.com/treasureboxes.php
Our first delivery to the hospital has to be 60 boxes,
one for every bed. Once that is accomplished, we need
only to replenish the supply every couple of months.
Decorating a treasure box will take an hour or two of
your time. Please help the chapter to help the Shriners.
